Hands-on in die Zukunft

What happens when we make things? This exhibition is about people who create things. What do they learn when they make glass, tiles, dumplings and carpets? What do we learn about the world when we listen to craftspeople and see perspectives that are too often overlooked? Where is discrimination happening, and where can we find opportunities for change?
Dings happen shows things by Chingis Azydov, Rimon Alyagon Darr, Mariochukwu D. Gilbert, Dunia Sahir and many more. They are complemented by selected objects from the Volkskundemuseum Wien, as well as statements and reports on crafts, culture, art and entrepreneurship.
 
The exhibition at SOHO Studios Ottakring is part of the pilot project ‘Hof der Kulturen’, which has been running since 2024, combining crafts and cultural work and aiming at a future use of the inner courtyard of the Volkskundemuseum Wien. It is not only a showcase of the present, but also a glimpse into the future: From 2027, a permanent workshop centre is to be created in the ‘Hof der Kulturen’ – a lively place in the courtyard of the Museum where the city can be shaped in all its diversity. Funded as a Kulturankerzentrum by the City of Vienna, the courtyard sees itself not only as a physical place, but also as a space for thinking about social possibilities.
